PEM Motion Creates an Ecosystem for the Future of E-Mobility and Energy Storage

PEM Motion is consolidating its existing areas of expertise into three independent companies: PEM Motion, PEM Volterra and PEM Share. The new structure creates clear responsibilities while combining specialized expertise with the synergies of a shared ecosystem.
The e-mobility and energy storage industry is undergoing profound change and remains highly dynamic. Increasing technological complexity, growing regulatory requirements, intensifying competition, and ever-shorter innovation cycles are fundamentally changing what companies need to succeed. These developments require increasingly specialized expertise alongside interdisciplinary collaboration. Against this backdrop, PEM Motion is strategically repositioning itself and creating a corporate structure that intelligently combines focus with collaboration.
Over the past years, PEM Motion has established itself as a development and consulting partner in the fields of Battery Compliance & Testing, Battery Management Systems (BMS), Training, Operations and Innovation Support. Building on this experience, these areas of expertise are now being consolidated into independent companies with clearly defined focuses.
As part of its focus on development support for e-mobility, PEM Motion has also been merged with MOiON GmbH. MOiON adds comprehensive expertise in product development along the electric powertrain to the company profile. PEM Motion therefore positions itself as a development partner supporting customers through targeted consulting as well as the testing and implementation of new technologies.
The Battery Management Systems (BMS) business unit was transferred to WLF Energy GmbH on June 9, 2026. WLF Energy is now part of the extended PEM partner network.

PEM Motion: A Platform for Industrial, Emission-Free Innovation
PEM Motion combines its existing areas of expertise with MOiON’s industrial engineering capabilities in emission-free heavy-duty and off-highway vehicles.
Drawing on numerous real-world projects, PEM Motion has in-depth expertise in battery, electric powertrain and hydrogen systems, as well as their control systems. PEM Motion therefore supports customers from the initial idea through to reliable and scalable implementation.
“Innovation emerges where infrastructure, research insights, industrial experience and entrepreneurship come together. With the new PEM Motion, we are creating exactly this kind of platform and enabling our customers to bring new mobility solutions into practical application and to market readiness faster,” says Dr.-Ing. Christoph Deutskens, Managing Director of PEM Motion.
The platform is built around four central areas, the so-called “Levels”:
- MOiON Technology Level: The MOiON Technology System enables the rapid development and testing of new hardware and software solutions.
- R&D Level: Connecting industrial companies with leading research institutions and scientific expertise
- Expert Level: Targeted experience-based mentoring from international e-mobility experts for demanding development projects
- Partnership Level: Connecting and bringing together start-ups, established industrial companies and research institutions
“With the MOiON Technology System we developed ourselves and its products, we have a strong technological foundation for developing, integrating and testing innovations under real-world conditions. This allows us to achieve industrial applicability quickly—a decisive factor for speed in development projects,” emphasizes Fabian Schmitt, Managing Director of MOiON GmbH.
PEM Volterra: Testing and Compliance Assessment for Safe Market Access
PEM Volterra is being established as an independent company focused on Battery Testing, Battery Analysis, Compliance, Validation and Market Access. Its goal is to support companies in bringing battery technologies efficiently to market readiness while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
“Successfully bringing batteries and energy storage systems to market today means much more than good development work. What matters is the interplay of technical development, testing, regulatory requirements and practical implementation. This is exactly where we support our customers with tailored concepts to identify risks early, make the right decisions and navigate the path to market launch efficiently,” says Gerd Macherey, Managing Director of PEM Volterra GmbH. “Only in this way can we create planning certainty even in dynamic times and ensure a smooth market entry.”
PEM Share: Knowledge, News and Networking for the Battery Industry
PEM Share will continue its international activities in training, media and networking as an independent business. With Battery-News.com as its central media platform, the company creates a network for industry knowledge, professional development and dialogue between start-ups, industry and research.
In addition to practical training and seminars, PEM Share organizes industry events such as the “E-Mobility Production Awards” as part of the “Battery Production Days (BPD),” the industry’s leading event. Formats such as the “Battery Training Metro” promote the exchange of knowledge and information on trends and developments in the battery and e-mobility industries.
“Comprehensive market and technology expertise is a key pillar of international competitiveness. By creating and actively promoting opportunities for knowledge transfer, we can help companies strengthen their ability to innovate sustainably,” explains Christoph Lienemann, Managing Director and Partner of PEM Share GmbH.
Common Roots, Clear Profiles, Strong Expertise
Going forward, PEM Motion, PEM Volterra and PEM Share will operate with clearly differentiated profiles. Customers benefit from clearly defined points of contact, deeper specialist expertise and access to a closely connected ecosystem:
“Each company can focus fully on its core competencies and expand them in a customer-centric way. At the same time, a network is created that generates interdisciplinary synergies, allowing customers to access the expertise of the network exactly where they need it. This combination of specialization and connectivity is what sets us apart,” emphasizes Dr.-Ing. Christoph Deutskens, Managing Director of PEM Motion.
In addition to their common roots, PEM Motion, PEM Volterra and PEM Share share a common vision: to actively shape and drive the transformation of e-mobility and energy storage.
